Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto V has made huge success and money than any other entertainment product ever. Grand Theft Auto has made around $6 billion since its launch in September 2013, surpassing any movie, video game or record ever released.

Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V) was released on the PS and Xbox 360 platforms in 2013 and a year later it became available on Xbox One and PS4. The game was also made available on PC.

Despite raking in huge profits, Minecraft has outsold GTA V, selling over 144 million units though GTA V made more profit due to it being a more expensive game and the micros-transaction-fuelled GTA Online mode.

"Since its launch in 2013, GTA V has sold 90 million units, putting its total haul for publishers Take-Two interactive in the neighbourhood of $6 billion," an analyst for Cowen, Doug Creutz, told MarketWatch. "Far above the success of blockbuster movies like Star Wars or Gone With The Wind, which both collected more than $3 billion, adjusted for inflation. Even taking into account DVD and streaming sales would not put the biggest movie blockbusters in GTA V's neighbourhood."

Reports suggest that Rockstars might for the first time include a female protagonist as one of its lead characters in Grand Theft 6 which is currently under production. The GTA 6 which is being referred to as project America may take place in two locations which are Vice City and South America.

However, the wait for Grand Theft 6 will be a long one since the game is rumoured that it will be released in 2022.
