WhatsApp is a popular messaging app widely used in several countries around the world. With over 1.5 billion monthly active users, its no surprise that it has accumulated this figure. However, not all were made from the Google Play Store.
Similar to Facebook, YouTube, Maps, Gmail, and other Android apps, WhatsApp do come pre-installed on some Android devices. App developers do partner with OEMs like Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo, and others to pre-install apps on their device and Google do count each activation as an installation.
