Since the idea of this post is to get the data for free, you don't have to buy any of the mentioned smartphones. To get the data for free, all you have to do is get the 10 IMEI digits of any of the mentioned smartphones (no need for the full digits)

You can just copy 10 digits of the IMEI from someone that has bought it, or you can go window shopping to where the smartphones are being sold and then, systematically get the 10 digits. Requirements To Get MTN Free Data:

1. An MTN Ugandan SIM Card
2. An Android (MTK device) or a small button small
3. The IMEI of any of the smartphones I mentioned (just 10 digits needed)
4. The IMEI tweaking app

Steps To Activate MTN Free 9GB Data

These steps come after you've tweaked the phone with the IMEI digits

1. Insert an MTN Ugandan SIM Card in the tweaked phone
2. Upon insertion, you should receive 9GB of free data and as well an SMS to confirm it
3. You can check your data on your phone's dialer

Note: There are two methods in this post. The first method has to do with your small button phone. You know, the feature phone, while the second method has to do with your Android smartphone (MTK to be precise).

MTN Free 9GB Data Activation: Button Phone Method

1. From your button phone, dial *#06#, and your IMEI number will appear. Copy it on a piece of paper because you will need it later!! This is very important.

2. Now dial *#9646633# to bring up Engineer Mode

3. Go to Paraset

4. Now replace the first 10 IMEI numbers you see with the 10 digits you copied. Please, don't delete the"a" that appears before the IMEI digits. Leave the "a" there.

5. Restart your phone for the changes to take effect.

6. Follow the steps in the "Steps To Activate MTN free 9GB Data" to get your free data

How To Revert Back To Your Old IMEI

Follow the procedures as shown above. However, this time around you will use your complete IMEI number to replace the one that you will see when you open Engineer Mode.

MTN Free 9GB Data Activation: Smartphone Method

Procedures:
1. First of all click here to download and install the MTK engineering app

2. Open the app and scroll to Engineering mode (MTK) or MTK settings and click it.
3. Click on CDS information
4. Click the Radio information and you will get phone 1 and phone 2. Depending on the sim   IMEI you wish to change, phone 1 is sim 1 and phone 2 is sim 2
5. To change sim 1 IMEI number to the one that you have, touch phone 1, and in the popup, touch the AT+
6. Once you touch it, the Keyboard will pop up. Now type any single letter and then cancel only the letter that you typed. Immediately you can notice the scribes that are required for you It looks like AT+EGMR=1,7""
7. Now move your finger and tap your finger to put double space in between AT and + and then it should look like this AT  +EGMR=1,7"".
8. The next step for you is to type the required IMEI number in between the two inverted commas. When you do that it should look similar to this AT+EGMR=1,7"123456789123456".
9. Verify the typed IMEI numbers and then click the SEND AT COMMAND
10. Reboot your phone once the pop-up display indicates AT command is successfully sent.
11. Follow the steps in the "Steps To Activate MTN free 9GB Data" to get your free data

How To Revert Back To Your Old IMEI

If you want to change your IMEI number back to the original that came with your phone, just repeat the above procedure using your original IMEI number.
