For years, PlayStation's Remote Play which allow users to stream game from their console to a smartphone, has been available only on Sony smartphones. However, this will feature will be made available to other Android smartphones.
Earlier this year, Sony added iOS compatibility and so we expected support for Android device other than Sony to be added before the year ran out.
Sony released the v7.00 update for the PlayStation 4 this week, bringing the feature to a large number of non-Sony Android devices. The Remote Play app will be available for anyone to download and enjoy the feature, though for now, the app can be seen on the Play Store but still restricted to Sony user alone.
Remote Play works on Android smartphones and tablets running software version 5.0 Lollipop or higher. Users must update their gaming console to the latest firmware. Android users running the Android 10 software version will be able to pair with Sony's DualShock
The software update also doubled the Party size to 16, brings Chat Transcription to Party using the PS4 Second Screen app. For now, the Chat Transcription will only support US English and will be available for those in the US only.
