WhatsApp is Working on Avatar Reactions for Status updates

WhatsApp is currently working on a new feature that allows users to use their avatars to react to Status updates. You know how WhatsApp keeps sending us updates to make the app better? Sometimes we don't agree with everything they do, but overall, they've been doing a pretty good job keeping up with other messaging apps, especially considering how many people use it every day.

So, since last year, WhatsApp has let us use emoji reactions when we reply to someone's Status on Android. And now, they're taking it up a notch. They're working on a feature that lets us send our own avatars as reactions too. Basically, you'll be able to choose from eight different avatars, according to WABetaInfo. This cool update was included in version 2.23.18.9 of the WhatsApp beta for Android. But here's the catch: it's not available to all testers just yet, as the website notes.

When it's widely available, you'll be able to switch to avatar reactions right beside the current emoji reactions. Check out the picture above to see the reactions you can use. However, there seems to be a little discrepancy – the site mentioned eight avatars, but we only see six in the screenshot.

Avatars definitely give a more personal touch compared to plain old emoji reactions. So, we're expecting this feature to first show up for beta testers before it becomes a regular part of the app.

You can go ahead and try out WhatsApp for Android beta v2.23.18.9 from the Google Play Store, but just know that you might not see this new avatar reactions feature yet. I tried it myself. Still, this update gives WhatsApp Status reactions a nice visual refresh, and I'm sure people who use the app a lot will enjoy it.

Recently, WhatsApp added a little animation when you switch between video and audio messages. And they've finally allowed us to send high-resolution photos and HD videos to our contacts. This is great because sometimes we don't want to send low-quality images or videos that look all pixelated.
