Huawei, yesterday went on its first flash sale of the Mate X foldable device in China and the stock got exhausted in minutes.

The Mate X foldable smartphone was launched in February this year, a few days after Samsung launched the Galaxy Fold. However, due to the US ban which restricts Huawei from installing Google services on the device, the Chinese firm delayed the device from the time it planned to roll them out to different markets.

Last month, Huawei placed the Mate X up for registration/pre-orders in China until yesterdays flash sales which lasted for just a few minutes.

Given the Mate X hefty price tag of CNY 16,999 (about $2,400 or 2,200), it's understandable that the device will suffer from sales in Europe and other part of the world due to the absence of Google Play apps and services. However, Huawei has a heavy strong hold of the Chinese smartphone market and is always recording positive sales.

The Mate X comes with a foldable 8-inch 2480x2200 OLED display that folds backward to form a 6.38-inch display at the back and a 6.6-inch display at the front. When folded, the user can make use of either of the back or front display.

The device is powered by a Kirin 890 processor with up to 2.6 GHz of speed, 5G modem, 5W fast-charging, 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage.

At the back of the device is a bulge which houses a triple Leica camera; a telephoto, wide-angle and an ultra-wide camera lens sensor. The cameras also serve as selfie cameras since the user can fold the device and the use it to take selfies.
